    Day 1

    Fly to Colombia

    Days 1-3

    Colombian Cooking Lesson

The best way for us to learn about Colombian cuisine is to try our hand at making some of the most delicious bites! A local woman from Bogota will host us in her home and teach us how to make ajiaco, a chicken and potato soup famous to Bogota. After preparing our list of ingredients, we’ll head to local markets where we’ll shop for poultry, spices, herbs, and the other ingredients that we’ll need for our cooking lesson. From here we’ll go back to the house to test our skills in the kitchen. No matter what, we’ll have fun learning a new recipe and happy to eat the delicious results!

    Botero Museum

Peruse the halls of the Botero Museum seeing works of art by the Colombian artist Francisco Botero and international artists Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Claude Monet. This is a great chance to get acquainted with the art culture of Colombia!

    La Candelaria

Walk in the heart of old, historic Bogota, known as La Candelaria, which is home to a great number of restored 300 year old homes and public buildings. Visit Plaza Bolivar, the San Francisco Church, the lively pedestrian street “Calle 11” bursting with local restaurants (some family-owned for eight generations), and perhaps the 17th century Santa Clara Convent.

    Monserrate Hill

Aboard a funicular, we’ll ride to the top of Monserrate Hill where we can take in the breathtaking views of Bogota below.

Play the National Game of Colombia

Play the national game of tejo! This game was originated by the Chibcha people from pre-Hispanic central-western Colombia. It may look simple but there are many rules and it is very competitive.

    Days 4-6

    Coffee Region

Horseback Ride in the Coffee Region

Venture into the beautiful rural landscapes of the coffee triangle just like Colombians of the past, on horseback! This fun adventure will take us through coffee plantations, to lakes, and past banana trees and fruit fields.

    Walk Through Valle de Cocora

Walk through the Valle de Cocora, one of the most unique and fascinating natural landscapes in all of Colombia! As we walk through the lush green grass of the valley we’ll navigate around skinny, towering wax palms on all sides of us— it’s a scene that only Dr. Seuss could think up!

    Explore Salento

Explore all of the cafes, artisan shops, colorful buildings, and colonial architecture of the charming village of Salento, the oldest village in the region.

    Jeep Ride Through Coffee Region

In a classic Jeep, we’ll explore the quieter side of Colombia and one of its most well-known coffee regions. Our jeep will cruise through the streets of quaint colonial villages as we make our way further into the lush hills of the countryside.

    Days 6-8

    Street Food Tour

Explore the streets of Cartagena in the most delicious way possible, by trying food at the different food stalls of the city! We’ll taste arepas, carimanolas, empanadas, chorizo, lulo juice, and much more.

    Treasure Hunt Through Cartagena

Get ready to do your best pirate impression and scour the streets for treasure! Kids will be given clothes to dress like pirates and embark on a treasure hunt through Cartagena. There is no way more fun for kids to explore a place.

Visit a Local School in La Boquilla

We’ll visit a local school in La Boquilla to see what school life is like for kids in rural Cartagena. We can play a game of soccer or jump rope to get to know one another.

Beach Day on Islas del Rosario

We’ll explore the gorgeous Rosario Islands in the Caribbean. Just a short distance off the coast, the islands are a pure paradise. The clear blue water and white sand beach is the perfect setting for exploration and relaxation. Spend the day relaxing on the beach or playing in the water!

Activity Level

Active trips revolve around multi-sport activities that keep your family outside and having fun! Your family will spend more time interacting with the elements and exploring than sitting on a beach or inside of a museum. These activities are not always physically demanding but they can be and do require a basic level of fitness.
