Sit back, relax and make your leisure mean something special on our family trip to Hawaii, the world’s choice for tropical paradise. This lush archipelago is a haven of ease and excitement that fosters the aloha spirit in everyone.

Gorgeous beaches, year-round warmth and friendly islanders await on our Hawaii Family Adventure. Of course, you and your family will have plenty of time on Hawaii’s turquoise waters and sandy shores. But once you step foot in the mountainous regions of Maui or the tropics of O’ahu, you’ll discover just how much more discovery awaits!

Hawaii’s ecological diversity and rich cultural heritage make it one of the most explorable regions in the world. Spend one morning snorkeling balmy Olowalu Beach, then spend the next in lush tropical valleys with traditional islanders. No matter the age of your family members, every day offers excitement and adventure, whether it’s on the waves or in the jungles.

Kayak and snorkel with manta rays, sea turtles and a kaleidoscopic variety of fish at Olowalu Beach. Discover the lush tropical valleys of remote Maui with friendly Hawaiian families. Visit the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor. Ride through the tropical slopes and centuries-old pastures at Kualoa Ranch, where “Jurassic Park” and “Jumanji” were filmed.

We’ll arrange most of your meals ahead of time, though we’ve built in a few free lunches and dinners to help you discover Hawaii’s oceanside restaurants at your leisure. Your expert guide will help you explore the stunning coasts and Hawaiian towns with ease. It’s here you can finally have the aloha experience you’ve always dreamed of. Let’s go!

Relax on the Beautiful Hawaiian Coasts

What better place than Hawaii to spend a beach day (or two, or three…)? Lounge your way across Maui and O’ahu while the kids are busy taking in the surf and sun. We’ve built in open-ended afternoons throughout your itinerary to ensure you’re getting the rest and relaxation you want.

Snorkel and Kayak in Olowalu Reef

On Maui’s West Side is the quant oceanfront area of Olowalu Reef, a thriving, vibrant ecosystem where some of the archipelago’s oldest reef structures reside. Hop in and discover an underwater world filled with ocean critters, including scores of manta rays and sea turtles.

Visit Pearl Harbor’s USS Arizona Memorial

In the middle of Pearl Harbor lies the sunken wreckage of the USS Arizona, a solemn reminder of the attack against the United States that took place here and launched the country into the Second World War. Pay your respects at the memorial, then head to shore to spend time at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, featuring galleries and outdoor exhibits related to the Pacific War.

Discover Movie Sets from “Jurassic Park” and “Godzilla”

Hop aboard a private All-Terrain Vehicle on a guided tour through Kualoa, a private cattle ranch located on the tropical slopes of O’ahu. You’ll pass through the beautiful 1,000-acre Ka’a’awa “Jurassic” Valley, most notably featured in “Jurassic Park.”

Explore Remote Hawaii with Native Islanders

Join up with Hawaiian families from an isolated, traditional village for a nature walk. A friendly kapuna (Hawaiian elder) will offer guidance and interpretation as you make your way through the region’s vegetation-covered wilderness. This opportunity provides a glimpse into traditional Hawaiian culture that few visitors ever experience.

  • Itinerary

    Day 1

    Fly to Maui Island, Hawaii

    Days 1-4

    Maui Island

    Transfer from Kahului Airport

Make your way through Kahului Airport, where a representative from Thomson Family Adventures will greet you with a traditional floral lei and transfer you to your hotel.

    Private Island Excursion

Venture out into Maui on a guided private excursion of the island’s stunning landscapes and communities. Start with gorgeous views of ‘Iao Valley, a lush, stream-cut valley in West Maui, then journey through the clouds to the summit of Haleakala National Park (10,023 feet above sea level) for an astounding panorama of craters, rain forests and sweeping deserts. Next, head to upcountry Maui, where golden beaches give way to rolling hills and misty mountains that serve as the stomping ground of the paniolos, or Hawaiian cowboys. Head to the artistic community of Makawao, a cozy little place situated mid-slope of the Haleakala Volcano. Round out the excursion in historic Paia, a town of rustic storefronts and galleries with big, surf-worthy waves and lagoon beaches.

    Olowalu Beach Kayaking & Snorkeling

Snorkel and kayak in Olowalu Reef, a quaint oceanfront area on Maui’s West Side. Under the waves are a thriving, vibrant ecosystem housing some of the oldest reef structures on the Hawaiian Islands. Let’s not forget all the fun ocean critters you’ll see, including scores of manta rays, sea turtles and a kaleidoscopic variety of fish. Please note, the location of this activity may change due to wind conditions.

    Lahaina Historical Walking Excursion

Slow down, bask in the sun and stroll the streets of Lahaina for a glimpse into the past of this former capital of Hawaii. Front Street displays its character with wooden storefronts, art galleries, archaeological sites and the imposing West Maui Mountains in the distance. Your guide will lead you through town as you pass lighthouses, museums, enormous banyan trees and mansions that each tell the story of this historic town.

    Explore a Remote Maui Valley

In a scenic village that lays isolated in a lush tropical valley, traditional Hawaiian culture flourishes. Join up with members of the families who have lived in the valley for generations and head out on a nature walk through the region’s vegetation-covered wilderness. Exploration and interpretation will be provided by a friendly kapuna (Hawaiian elder).

Optional: Try Your Hand in a Taro Field

Depending on the conditions and your interest level, feel free to try your hand working with local families in a muddy taro field! Taro is a starchy tropical vegetable with a mildly sweet taste. This visit offers a special glimpse of traditional rural Hawaiian life as it really exists, something few visitors ever experience. You’ll have the chance to rinse off in a mountain stream afterward, so don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty – or participate in a mud fight!

    Myths of Maui Luau

Celebrate Hawaii’s spirited culture and traditions on the beautiful Maui oceanfront with Hula dancing, rhythmic Polynesian drumming and sumptuous Hawaiian cuisine. You’ll witness an Imu ceremony, where cooked pork is removed from an underground oven fired by hot coals. You’ll also see shows of swirling flames, knife dancers and more. The family-focused food, music, energy and excitement provide a wow-worthy way to connect with Hawaii’s indigenous cultural history.

    Flight to Honolulu (~40 minutes)

Visit Pearl Harbor's USS Arizona Memorial

Head back to the shores to spend time at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, featuring galleries and outdoor exhibits related to the Pacific War.

    Visit Kualoa Ranch

Ready to see where Godzilla left his footprints, or where the kids in “Jurassic Park” hid from dinosaurs? It’s also home to tropical slopes, generations-old pastures and sets from over 79 movies.

    Free Day

It’s a great spot for families, as the waves are rarely large but still large enough for bodyboarding. It’s the perfect beach day for kids and adults! A couple sporty activities are also available in Waikīkī if you’d like to do something more active.

    Option: Hike Diamond Head

Diamond Head Trial takes you to the summit of the hill just southeast of Waikīkī. It’s a rewarding and surprisingly doable hike for children and older generations alike, requiring about an hour to reach the 760-foot tall summit. The hike itself is 1.5 miles round-trip, including steep sections and narrow stairs. The view from the summit offers 360-degree views of Honolulu, the mountains of O’ahu and the sweeping Pacific Ocean.
