Looking to make the most out of your Iceland Family Vacation? This 4-day journey in the northern region will be a wonderful and exciting addition to what you have already learned. Often less traveled than its Western and Southern counterparts, the region surrounding the city of Akureyri in the North of Iceland is abundant with gorgeous natural landscapes, exciting wildlife and relaxing (less crowded) geothermal baths. There is something for every member of your family!

    Ride Icelandic Horses

Often small in stature to a standard hose, the Icelandic horse comes in many different colors and hair varieties. Getting to know them and riding one through the Icelandic countryside is bound to exhilarate the whole family!

    Climb atop a Volcanic Crater

Take a steady climb up Grábrók Crater for a great view of the surrounding volcanic landscape. The crater itself was formed 3,400 years ago due to a fissure eruption of the volcanic system of Ljosufjoll. This breathtaking viewpoint of Northern Iceland is a sight you will not soon forget!

    Explore Lake Mývatn

Discover and explore all the different natural formations that occur from Iceland’s unique volcanic geothermal landscape. On the lake itself is one of the world’s most abundant duck populations! The colorful Harlequin duck probably being its most beautiful and splendid representative.

    Spot Humpback Whales

Since the northern coast of Iceland is known as the ‘whale watching capital’ of the nation, spotting a majestic humpback is a likely thrill! Point out some in the wild as well as visit a local whale museum to become an expert on these ocean giants.

    Soak in Geothermal Baths

Dip into a variety of both natural and manmade baths along the north coast to soak your troubles away and live like a true Icelander.
