    Travel along the stunning Amalfi Coast to view steep cliffs, sheltered coves, and quaint towns on this family vacation in Italy. This active but easy walking holiday takes your family to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites and four active volcanoes. You’ll gain a real sense of Italian culture, with family activities that include kayaking, boat rides, and meeting locals!

    Hike Up Volcanoes

    Hike on several of Italy’s famous volcanoes including Europe’s largest and most active volcano, Mt. Etna, and perhaps the most infamous, Mt. Vesuvius.

    Discover the Ruins of Pompeii

    The once bustling city of Pompeii was quickly reduced to ruin by an explosion of nearby volcano, Mt. Vesuvius, but the ash was able to preserve the city making it an incredible point in history, frozen in time for us to explore.

    Drive Down the Amalfi Coast

    Travel down the Amalfi Coast to see the towns of Naples and Amalfi and explore the nearby sites of Pompeii and the island of Capri.

    Island Hop Around the Aeolian Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

    Kayak off of the coast of Vulcano and hike on the island of Stromboli to experience these natural wonders in an active and unique way.

    Explore Sicily

    While on Sicily, hike on Mt. Etna, explore the town of Catania, meet with the GAPA Youth Association, and eat some of the most succulent treats that you’ll ever try.


    Extension: Spend Time in Rome

    Visit the Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, and the Sistine Chapel.

    Day 1

    Fly to Italy


    Days 2-5

    Amalfi

    Kayak Excursion

    Young explorers will love kayaking past beaches, into sea caves and under natural rock arches on this adventurous water excursion.

    Ascend Mt. Vesuvius

    Hike back in time to the top of Mt. Vesuvius, best known for its eruption in 79 A.D. that led to the destruction of Pompeii. We can stand atop its cone and get incredible and impressive views of Naples below.

    Embark on a Guided Visit of Pompeii

    Your kids’ history lessons will come to life with a visit to Pompeii, a town that was frozen in time by the 79 A.D. Mount Vesuvius eruption and left untouched until it was discovered in the 18th century.

    Explore Capri

    Explore the glamourous island of Capri from lemon groves and fragrant bougainvillea to Roman ruins and the Natural Arch, a collapsed grotto, to see some of the most picturesque sites in Capri.

    Palermo

    Dinner in a Pizzeria

    There is a reason Italy is known for its pizza. Decide for yourself if it is the crust, the sauce, or the simplicity of toppings that makes it so delicious!


    Days 6-8

    Vulcano

    Ascend Fossa di Vulcano

    Climb to the top of Vulcano’s most popular attraction, Fossa di Vulcano, a dormant crater rising more than 1,200 feet.

    Kayak Excursion Around Vulcano

    Paddle a sea kayak in the calm waters around the small island of Vulcano, known for its wealth of hot springs, mud baths and black-sand beaches.

    Pizza Making and Wine Tasting

    Enjoy great Sicilian wines during a tasting at a local winery. While you taste the fine wines, the kids will enjoy making their own pizza for dinner.

    Hike to Sciara del Fuoco

    Hike the Sciara del Fuoco as the sun sets and the view becomes its most spectacular.


    Days 9-10

    Sicily

    Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

    Stop in a typical pasticceria and discover the variety of Sicilian pastries. Our host will show some of the secrets of the wonderful and most famous Sicilian delicacies as cannoli, cassata, pasta reale, cornetti and more.

    Friends Across Borders (FAB)

    Gather in San Cristoforo, Catania’s vibrant old quarter, to meet the volunteers, kids and families of GAPA (“Youngs Absolutely for Action”), a nonprofit organization promoting youth leisure activities and supporting the school. Get a chance to talk and play with children, and discover the economics and conditions of Sicilian life.

    Walking Discovery of Catania

    Enjoy a guided exploration of this beautiful ancient city filled with Baroque squares and architecture.

    Hike Mt. Etna

    Take an easy walk on the slopes of Europe’s highest active volcano. Cinder cones and extinct craters are found on the desolate landscape of this upper part of Etna. From high on the mountain we’ll see a wonderful panorama of the eastern coast of Sicily!

    Just a few feet from the sea is the gorgeous and wonderful Minori Palace. The hotel has kept much of its original architecture while still staying up to date with modern design. This is a truly “new classic” style of Italian hotel. The rooms are spacious and elegant with soundproof walls, a TV, and Wi-Fi. The staff is friendly and attentive and the location is perfect, right in the middle of town and steps from the beach.     Taking the Tirrenia ferries to venture across the Italian seas is one of the best ways to travel! The ferry is modern, clean, comfortable, and perfect for families. You can go peruse small boutique shops for souvenirs or have a relaxing night watching a movie in your room or at the on board cinema. The ferry has also been designed for kids to have fun. With kid centers that offer places to play and cartoons to watch, you can be sure everyone will have a good time during the journey!

    The result of a marriage between an old villa with features of a fisherman’s house, Hotel Eros overlooks the enchanting bay of Levante with views of the volcano.
