Swim with Wildlife
The best wildlife to see in Baja is under the water. Baja offers a lot of opportunities to swim with really magnificent animals. One of those animals is the whale shark. Yes. In Baja you can swim with whale sharks! This is something that kids will never forget. You can also swim with sea lions. These cute and friendly animals will dive right into the water and swim up to you to say hello. One thing is for sure, whether swimming with whale sharks or sea lions you are bound to get a great photo!
Glamp on a Deserted Island
There are several islands off of the shore of Baja. Your family can have one to themselves! Imagine the memories you’ll have from staying on your own private island. There will be no roads, no people, and no distractions. You can spend the days hiking around your island, kayaking off the coast, or relaxing on the shore. Whether you choose a hard shell or soft shell, you’ll love every bite!
Snorkel in the Sea of Cortez
This might be the best place in the world to go snorkeling. Jacques Cousteau led several expeditions into the Sea of Cortez. It was one of his favorite places and he gave it the nickname, “The Aquarium of the World.” All you have to do is snorkel for five minutes to see why. There are over 900 species of fish in all sizes and colors, manta rays, sea lions, dolphins, and every February the whale migration passes through. It’s an extraordinary place!
Whale Watching
Speaking of whales, during February there is no better place in the world to go whale watching. Nearly 20,000 gray whales make the annual trip to Baja as part of their migration. This is where the whales mate and calf. Gray whales are typically 44-48 feet long and weigh as much as 80,000 pounds. It’s amazing to see them in their natural environment.
Cliff Hike
Sometimes the best thing to do on a family vacation is get away from everything. Going for a hike is always a fun way to do just that. In Baja you can hike along cacti strewn desert cliffs to the ocean. You’ll see the local vegetation and wildlife while stopping to take in the idyllic views. Capping off a hike with a quick dip in the ocean is the perfect way to enjoy the desert!
