    Explore Tortuguero National Park

    Traverse canals by canoe and jungle boat through wildlife rich mangrove forests in one of the most biologically diverse places in the country. It’s an endless stream of wildlife — monkeys, crocs, sloths and more!

    Sarapiqui Whitewater Rafting

    Have a blast on a super fun Class II/III rafting trip down a river of alternating crystalline pools and churning rapids. Then cross that same river – twice – on an exhilarating zip line.

    Maleku Village Experience

    A visit to the Maleku village is an opportunity to share and learn more about Costa Rica’s legacy of indigenous culture. The Maleku are one of the 24 indigenous communities in Costa Rica. In the village, you will meet the people and learn about their natural medicinal plants, take an archery lesson and learn about traditional  Costa Rican arts!

    Enjoy beaches beloved by Ticos on the Pacific Coast, unwinding, snorkeling, paddle-boarding and more. There is tons to do – or time to do nothing, it’s your choice!

    Days 2-3

    Tortuguero

    Welcome Breakfast

    Enjoy a welcome breakfast to meet your guide(s) and fellow travel buddies for the week.

    Check into your Hotel

    Boat Transfer

    Enjoy the two-hour transfer on a boat as you travel through the canal to your lodge, watching for caiman, sloths, monkeys and a variety of tropical birds along the way!

    Drive to Caño Blanco

    Begin our journey to Tortuguero National Park with a 2-1/2-hour drive to Caño Blanco, the closest we can get to the Park on land.

    Casa Cecropia Chocolate Tour

    Visit Casa Cecropia (by canoe of course!) for a hands-on explanation about the importance of chocolate. Hint: Chocolate was so important in pre-Columbian times, it was used as currency! Sample your own home-made chocolate and even get a (temporary) tattoo, made with vegetable ink in the ancient tradition of the indigenous people in the area.

    Optional Sea Turtle Conservancy Visit

    Visit the Sea Turtle Conservancy’s green turtle exhibit, where kids will love the opportunity to adopt an endangered Green Sea Turtle.

    Jungle Boat Expedition

    Venture into Tortuguero National Park for a jungle boat expedition along the winding river system. Eleven different habitats are found here including three toed sloths, three kinds of monkeys and 320 species of birds.

    Relax at the Hotel

    Cerro de Tortuguero Hike

    Take a boat over to this inactive volcano for an afternoon hike. Make sure to pack some good walking shoes and bring a bottle of water for this beautiful, moderate hike. Keep your eyes pealed for some interesting critters along the way!

    Maleku Village Experience

    A visit of the Maleku village is an opportunity to share and learn more about the Costa Rican legacy.     Fly through the air from one platform to the next, from treetop to treetop, across the Zip-Line cable course, an exhilarating, treetop experience.

    Boat Tour and Snorkeling

    Sail along the coast by private boat on this 4 hour excursion, including snorkeling. Boat accommodates up to 10 guests. Snorkeling equipment and SUP boards available.

    Hotel Bougainvillea

    The Hotel Bougainvillea is located 20 minutes from San Jose Airport in the province of Alajuela. Amenities include a pool, a tennis court, gift shop, restaurant, Wi-Fi, hair dryers, laundry service and a business center. Note that Bougainvillea does not have connecting rooms.

    Aninga Lodge

    Aninga Lodge is located on the northeastern coast of Costa Rica. Amenities include ceiling fans, Wi-Fi, a public phone for overseas calls, a pool, jacuzzi and spa.

    Hotel Arenal Kioro

    Sandwiched between two streams – La Palma and Kioro – Hotel Arenal Kioro provides a breathtaking natural view of Arenal Volcano. The hotel’s setting is a perfect representation of what makes Costa Rica so special, with two nature paths alive with myriad species of plants, as well as private thermal springs surrounded by flourishing gardens.
